Student Laptops

So the laptops are finally here...Do you think that these should be given to 11-12yr old children..what about pornography and hacking and loosing the laptops and theft etc....what are your opinion on this and do you think that this is a right move by the government ?

I tink dat the children deserve the laptops but wat about the ones that are careless and plus they are 12 yr olds what do they know about virus and illegal downloading and also crashing the computer hmph

They should have started with more mature children!

I think they trust in the competence and goodwill of these children too much, i see more stuff going wrong than right, why couldn't the give form four, five and cape students, they have the most work to do.
Instead of making the classroom more technologically advanced ( that would help MUCH MUCH more) the try this gimmicky thing. Just handing someone a computer does not automatically make them smarter and more productive. look at me I'm a college IT student and i waste alot of time online lol. Technology is only as useful as the things you use it for... and most people dont use it for education
People like free thing but it should be under more controlled and more reasonable circumstances, this isn't very controlled, there's no guarantee that it well result in a positive in the majority of cases.

Not to mention many parents will now have to pay money for internet bills.. people talk as if the internet coming free too lol
If this is poor people no matter of cheap blink is it still money out of their pocket.
I still vex the taking out school feeding too lol.

The children in my area still waiting for their laptops, they see it on news and they getting impatient lol., I wonder how they distributing them, if it's area by area or alphabetically or something.

I don't think its in any order. The first school was Success Laventille then somewhere in south,then Tobago , who knows where she will end up next. All the computers came with a security so no p-orn and no surfing where they not suppose to be. I do believe at this age is a good age to start children to be computer literate so u mature ppl , go buy yuh own.

It is a good idea to give them access to the technology but they should have bought netbooks instead of laptops since they are cheaper, a lot less bulkier & do the same thing. The schools should have a sort of "vault room" to store these things, which in hindsight, should have been taken care of first.

Hmph ONE THING!! Laptops came with webcam and then i thought the ministry banned any device with camera ?

Cell phone with cameras are completely different to a laptop/netbook. It is not as concealable as a phone & that is a silly rule anyway. It will not stop violence or sex; we just will not see it on YouTube.

we see wat children hav stored on dere comp....do parents monitor dese laptops coz every or most ah dem have internet home!!!

anyhow we got laptops in our school. is a nice Lenovo computer... but by nex term u will c the smart ones will get the illegal stuff (games/porn etc) and put it on flash drive and share with who want... so it make sense for the parents to monitor the laptops even the children who dont have internet... bcoz they gettin the porn on their flashdrives!!!

It will always have negative and positives in a situation....i believe dat it is good 2 start off the kids with the laptop at dat age....let them understand technology...im nt speakin about d rich kids dat already knw how 2 use the laptop but it gives the poor kids an opportunity jus as ne other.......

And in international countries in kindergarden schools apple donated the kindle 4 the children 2 use....the skools r buying touchscreen laptops n kindles 4 preschool children 2 use so y nt give our kids n opportunity dat we didnt hv

i find is ah real good thing that the government did. alot of people here in my community and as well as other parts of trinidad don't even have ah good shoes to go to school and this technological advancement would atleast help them to learn and also with research.

this week in Queens Royal Collage took bk all d laptops to place ah programme in it....an all d laptops can go on fb an d internet wen dey in school.....so dat means at break time d students can do wat dey want on d laptops!!!
