A policeman in Central Trinidad was last night facing charges of grievous sexual assault, common assault and rape against a Colombian sex worker.
She alleges that she was raped at gunpoint by the officer, who was angry she had refused to have sexual intercourse without protection.
The woman can only speak Spanish and because she entered Trinidad illegally, she was arrested by the policemen who took her report.
On Sunday, she pointed out a police constable as her attacker. The officer, who has 11 years service, is alleged to have been on duty when he visited a hotel in Chaguanas at 3 a.m. on Sunday. The gun was police issued.
The officer was allegedly pointed out in an identification parade at the Central Division on Sunday.
He is expected to appear in court today. -RC
