It's unfortunate. But what perplexes me, is why weren't prison officers offered firearms before? It clear that these were "hits" called from inside. Prisoners have too much liberty that they should not be getting. Blame should also be placed on the corrupt officers within the service for allowing these things to take place.

You got that right..... For Prison officers there should be more equipped with more security systems and firearms working in a place like that

The Judiciary has said it undertook a comprehensive sanitisation exercise at the St George West Magistrates' Courts in Port of Spain following reports that prisoners infected with chicken pox were brought to the facility from the Golden Grove Prison on Thursday. A news release was issued yesterday.

As a result of reports of the incidence of chicken pox at the Golden Grove facility, no prisoners were taken to the Courts yesterday. Their matters were adjourned and Magistrates heard charge cases only.

The Public Health Department of the Port of Spain City Corporation was informed of the development and guided the Judiciary in taking steps to minimise the possibility of any spread.

The Judiciary said yesterday it expects that the courts will be ready for normal operations on Monday.
