Just out of curiosity, when do your holiday decorations come down?

Traditionally, I put up Christmas decorations on Black Friday and take them down after New Year's, but this year I just put a few up a few days before Christmas and will be taking them down either today or tomorrow.

Usually we put them up around November and take them down within the month of January.

Last Xmas I kept them up until the middle of January or so. I think I'm just ready to be out with the old and in with the new year!

Lol I'm just hoping the new year brings some goodness in. I didn't really feel Christmas-y this year so it's easy for me to put it away and look for what's next. If it was Halloween/Samhain I would leave those up year round if I could! (Only 10 more months to go lol)

I thought I was the only one who didn't feel the spirit. I'm glad to embrace a new year as well, lots of room to improve and grow.

on Christmas day people were playing carnival music. Def didn't feel it this year! We usually take it down second week in January.

Even Christmas day felt like a normal day at any time of year for me. Hopefully the new year brings better! I also heard soca and chutney. My neighbors were blasting it all day long and for about 3/4 of the day, 2-3 different houses were blasting different types of chutney and soca at the same time. Don't talk for when the big trucks passed with music and got stuck in the traffic. Migraines are not supposed to represent the season! I'm actually relieved all that is over. I didn't get to the decorations today, just started putting away and re-organizing the rolls of gift paper. Hopefully tomorrow I can get to work on it so the slate will be clean for new year's lol

That's true I heard a lot of carnival music this year.

Oh well, the decorations must come down then, that's inspiration to take them down

I think Xmas music started playing around September or October this year, so I wasn't really surprised to hear Carnival music on Xmas. It sounded more like people having a Carnival lime than Christmas get-togethers. Maybe for Carnival they'll start playing Eid/Divali music.

Well the Christmas decorations start going up months before......I guess we're supposed to celebrate it that early too? I think it kinda says something about people and society in general. We're so busy rushing on to the next thing that we rarely take the time to stop and enjoy the moments of the present. We're just concentrated on playing keep-ups with what comes next.

Just realized, I didn't hear any Xmas songs this year! I need this to feel Christmassy!

Its not that they're rushing for the next best thing, its that they're too much in a hurry to show people what they have or too hurry to show off on others.

Is like people cannot slow down to enjoy the season. Everyone working , hussling or liming. Things not like long time where it's calm and enjoyable. Everyone has places to go, things to do and no quality time to spend. Every holiday season is commercialized to get money out of us .

Other than that we always booked up cause its the trend nowadays. There's no time for the people we neglected for the rest of year , we only concerned about following the trend and showing people how busy and nice we living.

It's a mentality I will never understand.

True. The spirit of the season I look forward to is decorations, carols, and cooking/baking for others. I imagine people at home with decorations around them, table full of food, sharing and laughing, and Xmas songs playing. The truth of the situation is that everyone is running helter skelter in every other direction focused on drinking it up (how do those holiday memories work if you're hungover or unconscious?) or trying to put on a show for others. Idk how I'm supposed to explain things like this to my son, who will inevitably be brainwashed into the commercialization when he starts school anyway.
