A 25-year-old man was arrested during a police operation in Claxton Bay yesterday after being found in possession of two firearms and 36 rounds of ammunition.
The man was among several people held during a wide search for firearms and narcotics in the Marabella and Claxton Bay Districts.
The operation was coordinated by Snr Supt Zamsheed Mohammed to clamp down on the proliferation of contraband being smuggled into the country through the old train line communities within the Southern Division.
Around 5 am yesterday, a team of officers led by Sgt Ifill went to the suspect’s home at Sookoo Trace, St Margaret where they conducted a search and found the suspect with a .9 mm pistol and a revolver.
He was taken into custody and was being questioned while ballistic tests were being carried out on the pistol to determine whether it was used in any crimes.
