A Special Reserve Police officer (SRP) and another man have been charged with murder.
SRP Kevon Jack, also known as ‘Policeboy’, 33, of Malick, Barataria and Nicholas ‘Nicco’ John, 42, of Kelly Village, Caroni, were also charged with robbery with aggravation following advice received from Director of Public Prosecutions Roger Gaspard SC on Tuesday.
Jack, who was last attached to the Guard and Emergency Branch, faces an additional charge of possession of a firearm.
They are charged with the murder of Amarnath Bissoon.
Bissoon, 39, of St Augustine, was at his home with a relative on May 25, 2018, when persons demanded entry. Upon opening the door, four armed men said it was a robbery and ordered Bissoon to hand over his jewelry and valuables.
During the invasion, the victim was shot several times and died at the scene. The men then escaped in a white Nissan Tiida motor vehicle.
Jack and John were arrested on July 13 and July 20, 2018, respectively by officers of the Organised Crime and Intelligence Unit and Homicide Bureau of Investigations (HBI), Region 2.
Investigations were supervised by Insp Andrew Lawrence and Sgt Hezron Lynch while both men were charged by Cpl Daryl Seecharan, all of HBI Region on Wednesday.
