NB. Not all SRPs are bad, some actually do their jobs right.

Seriously why do we SRPs in this country? Here's my take on this.

Supplemental Reserve Police (SRP) can join the the police force without any subjects.
They train for less than 4 weeks; 2 weeks traffic law training and 2 weeks firearm training.
Hardly any background checks are done on the individuals.
They are barely trained at all.

There are two things along to distinguish an SRP from an regular police :-
Their 4 digit regimental number.
and they have SRP not TTPS on their shoulder title.

The majority of the bad tickets and wrongful arrest are from SRPs. Remember the SRP years ago who give a handicap driver a ticket for parking his vehicle on a handicap zone because the SRP believed only wheel chairs should be in that zone. Remember also the SRP who gave the pregnant lady and her husband a ticket for driving on the PBR when they were rushing to the hospital ??

A lot of the SRPs out there are giving the criminal elements police information making it very difficult to capture them. Some SRPs are committing crime whilst on duty and even using the police vehicles to do their deeds.

USING a marked police vehicle, men wearing police tactical gear went to the home of a Chinese restaurant owner and robbed him of $400,000 just after midnight on Friday.

Wei Hui Zhu, 31, of Soledad Road, Claxton Bay was alseep when the police vehicle arrived at around 12.05am. Police investigators said three armed men walked into the compound and began asking Zhu several questions.

A report stated that a black Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) arrived shortly after with three more officers, who informed Zhu that they were acting on instructions to search his home.

The men went into a bedroom and found $400,000. The cash was placed in plastic bags along with two IPhones valued $13,500.

Police said Zhu was kicked about the body by the men. Southern Division police responded to the report.

The Express was told that no warrant was issued to search Zhu's home and at least one of the men involved in the incident was identified as a Special Reserved Police (SRP) officer.

An investigation is underway to identify the other men involved in the robbery. Investigators intend using CCTV camera footage at the GPS tracking technology on the stolen phones, to help solve the case.

I saw comments on Facebook defending the "background checks" being done on officers etc.. Clearly the present procedure is not working.

I think no procedure will work to help the situation because the body of a fish cannot stay fresh if the head is rotten.

The shocking aspect in all this it the fact that these Upholders of the Law are doing it in Police Vehicles in Police Uniform in Plain Sight!

This article below only reminds us of what we already know.

Prof. Deosaran: Release stats on police corruption

Former Chairman of the Police Service Commission, Professor Ramesh Deosaran is calling on the Acting Police Commissioner to make public, the number of police officers under investigation for misconduct in office.

Speaking on Power 102FM on Monday, Professor Deosaran said the information must also include a status update on the probes.

“What the public needs to know, and I’ve been asking the Acting Police Commissioner, publish the data, the statistics, how many officers are under investigation, for how long, and what is the kind of punishment meted out, and what system has been put in place, if at all, to prevent such indiscipline, especially serious acts of corruption or the abuse of power and so on. Let the public know.”

“Once a breach has been committed there are regulations which manage how the Commissioner should handle it.”

Professor Deosaran made the comments in light of an investigation being ordered over the weekend by Commissioner Williams into reports of a robbery, allegedly carried out by police officers.

He also said that the government must help fix the justice system in this country before citizens start taking matters into their own hands.

“This government must take quick action because if things continue to deteriorate, we’ll have to ask the question, do we have a real society?”

“Because people will feel they have to take action on their behalf and we may see a rise in vigilantism.”

Last week a Chinese national reported that he was robbed of 400 thousand dollars by men dressed in police clothing in a marked police vehicle.

Five more officers identified in Claxton Bay robbery

At least five officers of the Port of Spain Division have been identified by a Special Reserve Police (SRP) officer for allegedly having a role in the robbery of a Chinese businessman at Claxton Bay on Friday morning.

The SRP officer, who is said to have been assigned to the San Juan Sub Station, was detained hours after the robbery and is assisting investigators with their inquiries.

However, under questioning he admitted to a role in the robbery and allegedly identified at least five other officers said to be from the Port of Spain Division, for their role in the robbery as well.

As such the five suspects have been contacted by seniors of the division and are expected to be questioned today.

On Friday, three armed men went to the home of Wei Hui Zhu, 31, at Soledad Road, Claxton Bay in a marked police vehicle wearing police tactical uniform. Three others later arrived in a black Sport Utility Vehicle, telling the businessman they had instructions to search his home.

The men found and took $400,000 as well as two iPhones from the scene.

The incident was captured on CCTV footage by the businessman's home.

TTPS warns: Zero tolerance on 'rogue officers'
07:53pm, November 17, 2016

The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) is applying a zero tolerance approach to all allegations of police misconduct by 'rogue officers'.

Acting Police Commissioner, Stephen Williams, said at a media briefing Wednesday that since 2012, 150 police officers have been suspended from duty for varying criminal offences ranging from murder, misbehaviour in public office, perverting the course of public justice, sedition, assault and driving under the influence.

Williams confirmed that the TTPS will continue to "take a tough approach to any criminal conduct which is alleged against any police officer."

"The public is vesting trust in the police service and we must do nothing to undermine that trust."

"Clear, decisive and timely action will be taken in every case to remove what we can describe as the rogue element from the police service," he said.

He confirmed that following consultation with Director of Public Prosecution Roger Gaspard, Special Reserve Officer No. 8673, Sean Joseph, was charged with two counts of robbery with violence and one charge of possession of ammunition on November 15.

He has since appeared before Deputy Chief Magistrate Nanette Forde-John at the San Fernando 1st Court on the charge of possession of ammunition, and the matter was transferred to the Port of Spain Magistrate Court to be heard on November 21.

On the robbery charges, hearing was postponed to Thursday November 17 to address the issue of bail.

President of the Police Service Social and Welfare Association, Insp Michael Seales, said the association will be 'closing ranks' on matters of police misconduct and said he supports the Commissioner's decision to rid the service of 'rogue elements'.

Thank you for those articles. Why should someone train for just 4 weeks when compared to regular police who train for 6 months wear the same uniform and Can be absorbed as a regular ttps officer?
