The President of Trinidad and Tobago is the head of state of Trinidad and Tobago....the commander in chief of its armed forces..the office was established when the country became a republic in 1976.... before which the head of state was Queen Elizabeth II....the last Governor-General, Sir Ellis Clarke was sworn in as the first President on August 1 of that year.....he was formally chosen as President by an electoral college consisting of members of both houses of Parliament on September 24, 1976....which is now celebrated as Republic Day......
The President appoints as Prime Minister the leader of the largest party in the House of Representatives and also appoints members of the Senate on the recommendation of the Prime Minister and the Leader of the Opposition...the President must be at least 35 years old (although no President has been younger than 59).....a citizen of Trinidad and Tobago and at the time of nomination must have been resident in the country for an unbroken period of 10 years.....
The current President of Trinidad and Tobago is Professor Emeritus George Maxwell Richards....the official residence of the President is President's House....

Justice Anthony Carmona 59 yrs met the constitutional requirements to assume the post o Trinidad And Tobago 5th president....The term of Trinidad and Tobago President George Maxwell Richards comes to an end Mar. 17.....
He is a graduate of the University of the West Indies and the Hugh Wooding Law School. He has also served as a High Court judge at the Supreme Court of Trinidad and Tobago.....

Yes congrats him. I'm hearing alot of people saying that why Kamala chose him but i does always say, you don't know the person don't judge him. The man i very qualified from what i heard and the opposition did not really kick brass when they found out about his nomination.
 
Justice Anthony Thomas Aquinas Carmona was yesterday declared this country’s next President at the eighth meeting of the Electoral College.......Honourable members, Mr Anthony Thomas Aquinas Carmona was the only person nominated for the office of President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago....It took just eight minutes, then, for the Electoral College to declare a new President......The Prime Minister said Carmona, the President-elect, brings, “unique and special qualities to be our next Head of State”........The Prime Minister described Carmona as “a man of the people”, “on equal with the highest echelons of our Land”.....
 
Security was tight as rehearsals went on for the inauguration of president-elect Anthony Carmona, at the Hasely Crawford Stadium on Monday.....Co-ordinators from the Office of the President and various State arms, including the Defence Force, continued to work around the clock to get the stadium ready for the swearing-in of Carmona.....the inauguration is set for 5 p.m......The ceremony will be witnessed by a large contingent of dignitaries and up to 5,000 pupils from primary and secondary schools across the nation.....absolutely no unauthorised persons will be allowed into the ceremony and cautioned media persons slated to cover the event to have their badges on display..... infrastructure was being put up to facilitate coverage, including the big-screen televisions that will give a better view......On Sunday, outgoing President George Maxwell Richards will take a final bow in office......Richards will be part of a brief salute when he takes a drive around the block at President's House in St Ann's, exiting the gate known as Post One, the entrance closest to Queen's Hall, at 3:50 p.m......The demittal ceremony for Richards takes place from 4 p.m. at Knowsley, Queen's Park South......
