The corpse found lying face down near a river at Corosal Road, Gran Couva, has been identified as Bevan James.

Investigators said James 40, of Fanny Village, Point Fortin, was identified by his family at the Forensic Science Centre, Port-of-Spain, yesterday. An autopsy conducted on his body revealed that he died as a result of massive haemorrhaging from a slit across his throat.

Yesterday, friends posted condolences on James’ Facebook page. Dale Mitchell wrote, “R.I.P bro you will be missed.”

In an immediate response, Point Fortin mayor Abdon Mason said he was saddened to hear that one of his burgesses had been murdered.

“It is my hope that we reach a stage where we are not faced with this ongoing crime. I am saddened to hear of this death. I want to extend condolences to my family and friends. I will seek further information and visit the family as details come to hand. I pray for the family as they go through this troubling experience,” Mason said.

Around 6 am a woman was walking along Corosal Road, off the Gran Couva Main Road, when she saw the body lying near the river. Officers from the Central Division and the Homicide Bureau, including ACP James, Snr Sup Balram, Sup Grenwich, ASP Pierre and Sgt John visited the scene. James had a gaping chop wound to the right side of his neck.

Homicide officers said yesterday that they are yet to determine a motive for the crime. Investigations are continuing.
