The Muslim community is flabbergasted by the recent statements made on a political platform by Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley concerning the arms and ammunition found in the Monroe Road mosque last week and the hoax Carnival plot, says Imtiaz Mohammed, representing Concern Muslims of T&T.
Mohammed said according to a report in a daily newspaper yesterday, “The PM said, he feels vindicated in relation to the hoax Carnival plot.”
Mohammed said during the Carnival weekend, “Muslims were terrorized, traumatized, brutalized, and jailed for absolutely no valid reasons. I asked the question, what has changed since then to now in the favour of the law enforcement agencies in terms of the Carnival plot for the PM to feel vindicated?”
He said the administrators at the Monroe Road mosque found the arms and ammunition and called National Security, who then called the Chaguanas police station and the relevant police departments.
“The mosque administrators should feel vindicated and not the PM as they have acted responsibly and proven their commitment to law and order in Trinidad and Tobago.”
Mohammed is advising the PM “to not influence the minds of the population negatively against the Muslim population.
As citizens we have a right to let our voices be heard if we are dissatisfied with the law, security, and governance of our country.
“The Muslim community is presently observing the month of Ramadan and would greatly appreciate the respect of the PM during this time.”
