Microsoft has made its free anti-virus application available for download. It replaces the previous subscription based Onecare antivirus. Security Essential was code-named Morro. It was released to about 75,000 beta testers in June of this year. Now its ready to hit the market. The company said that its not a security suite; so don't expect any indept features, like back-ups etc. It a basic anti malware program thats designed to to run without user intervention. Just download, install and forget.
I wonder how this would affect other free offerings from third party software maker like AVG, and Avira? I don't think it would have much of an impact. Have anyone ever used the AVG Antivirus free edition. The thing is as solid as the paid-for version. It works for me.
