It's the middle of the fireworks season in Trinidad and Tobago. To us animal rescuers, its a total nightmare because we are doing what the government of this country would not - protect the welfare of animals in Trinidad and Tobago. There are many reports of animal cruelty in this country, but very concentrated around the end of the year. We see it all over social media, but why not in the local media reports?
Simply because most of the population, some media outlets and the government do not care about animals. They see animals to a lesser extent and not important. There are fickle outdated laws about animal cruelty and despite numerous cases, it was never used to charge criminals. When you call many police stations around Trinidad about Animal Abuse cases they rarely respond or give the famous line " they cannot do anything" . We have heard from many about their stories being sent & letters being written to reporters or media houses and they have never made news. ( Because it was not news worthy to the country's eyes)
We rescuers are fed up and feel so hopeless as to what is going on in our country. We are ignored by the organizations that can give light to the situation or bring about change to help the innocent beings that reside here. We have no where to turn.
