The Child Protection Unit has launched an investigation into the alleged sexual touching of a three-year-old child by a man believed to be in his 20s.
Yesterday, a video showing the alleged incident went viral on social media. It is reported that the suspect was held by villagers and badly beaten before being handed over to officers at the Arouca Police Station.
A preliminary report revealed that the incident occurred in Arouca over the weekend.
The child was taken to the Arima District Hospital where she was medically examined, but there was no evidence of sexual penetration.
However, police officers are continuing their investigations with the assistance of the video, which they said was secretly recorded by a relative.
