My indicator lights are only working when i press my alarm or put on my hazard light. However, when i opt to use my indicator left or right , i am getting a fast ticking sound and no lights are coming on, outside the car AND on the dash itself.

What can be the problem? Can anyone help?

have you tried using new bulb to make sure..... if not it could be a fuse problem

I am looking it up and the solutions are :

1. To change the indicator relay
2. To change the fuse
3. To change the 'stalk' for the hazard and indicator as the run on one .

What do i do ?

Pull the fuse out and see if its broken its connection or burned.

I was also thinking the stalk as your indicators may not work at all if the fuse or relay is the problem.

It could the indicator switch itself that needs to be replaced.

Anyhow, but a new indicator bulb. Remove each bulb and replace it with the new one in each location (two front & two rear) and see if it functions fine in any location.

All bubs are fine ..They are lighting perfectly as when i press my alarm both indicator lights on the side, back and headlights are working.

I tried it just now

I believe its the switch. Since you hear the ticking it means your flasher unit works and usually the ignition powers the relay which provides the power to the flasher. The only components left in the chain are the switch(stalk) , hazard switch and the actual bulbs & sockets but since all 4 work with the alarm it seems to be either stalk or the hazard switch so far.

Do the hazard lights work? A known fault with the VWs of that era that shared the same indicators was that the contacts inside the hazard relay got dirty and required cleaning. It would disable the whole indicator system.

yea i think this is most likely the problem here. buy/try a new indicator switch or have the contacts of the existing one cleaned.

my hazard lights work fine. i will try and see if i can clean the contacts and hope it solves the problem. thank u
