BULLIES WANT TO KILL USBy RHONDOR DOWLAT Thursday, December 10 2009

Two 15-year-old boys are pleading with Education Minister Esther Le Gendre and the police to save them from violent school bullies.

One terrified boy, and the parents of the other boy came to Newsday’s offices on Chacon Street, Port-of-Spain yesterday, to tell their stories of being afraid of the young thugs, who are also teenage schoolboys.

A timid-looking Marc Hodge has not even attended one class this term at the Malick Senior Comprehensive School, so scared is he of being either beaten or shot dead.

His trauma stems from being robbed and threatened as a student of Mt Hope Secondary School, which he last attended being assigned to Malick Senior Comprehensive after writing the 14+ exams in the previous term.

Robbed twice, in one instance $13 was stolen from him, Marc survived a third ordeal when a former student of Mt Hope told him he would be shot in the head.

This just goes to show how early these potential criminals start from. That's too show how deep, the moral void present in today's youths are. To be able to be robbing and threatening to kill at such a young age is disgusting. The police and authorites can only do so much. Parents must shoulder some of the blame also...as a matter of fact, parents must shoulder "alot" of it. It all starts at home. These youths have no positive role models to look up to. Their models are the Kartels and Movados. People who promote violence.. Imagine you robbing fellow school members and going as far as to be threatening to "shoot the victim in his head?" These are beyond bullies. They're terrorists.

U understand. i cannot even imagine someone going thru this. all the fear must be so mind driving. I really wish the minister can do something about this because the children really want to have a good life and education.

This is just dis-heartening to read about... Something reallyhas to be done about this.

they can either solve the problem with the boys or transfer them to a new school or something but that still won't clear it up

i think that transfering them to a new school would not solve the problem they have to deal with it in order for the boys to be safe

Transfering them can be a temporary solution for the "victims". As for the problem, it is present in any school. So the authorities have to deal with that. Where are the parents of the bullies? How come no-one has sai anything about them? Bring them in the spot light. Let them shoudler some of the blame. Deal with them too.

But why must the solution be to dislocate the victims. Deal with the bullies. Pull the bullies out of school and put them in a juvenile centre to get some evaluation and behavioural management.

Yes don't give them chances just send them to YTC don't stick because they just cause more harm than good

A universal practical approach must be taken in this matter. Like I said, involve the parents. Let them face the victim's parent's and the victims. Let them stand with their son that's doing this crap and shoulder the blame. Let them look the victims in their faces an apologize for their child's actions. Involve them dammit. Criminal are not born..they're made over time. At that age, the parent is soley responsible for their child's actions.
