Four men, charged with the murder of a PH taxi driver in Diego Martin which occurred on August 20, appeared before a Port-of-Spain Magistrate on Wednesday.

Paul Williams, aka ‘Porter’, 22, of Savannah Terrace, Diego Martin; Shakeem Charles aka ‘Keem’, 20, of Nelson Street, Port-of-Spain; Joseph George, 20, of George Street, Port-of-Spain; and Isaiah Pantin, aka ‘Wong’ and ‘Ziah’, 18, of Four Roads, Diego Martin, appeared before acting Deputy Chief Magistrate Nannette Forde-John in the Port-of-Spain 5th Magistrates’ Court.

Charles and George were also charged with of possession of a firearm and ammunition. The matter was postponed to September 26.

The victim, Jerrell Aris-Mendez, a 27-year-old, of Fatima Trace, Laventille, was hired to transport four men with his vehicle, into the Cascade area around 11.50am on August 20.

At Bagatelle Extension Road, Diego Martin, the passengers, two of whom were armed with firearms, announced a robbery.

During a struggle Aris-Mendez being shot several times. The suspects escaped on foot and the victim died at the scene.

The four men were arrested on the same day of the incident by officers attached to the Western Division.

Investigations were supervised by acting ASP Suzette Martin, while charges were laid by PC Dominic Garcia, both of Homicide Bureau of Investigations, Region 1, following advice received from Director of Public Prosecutions, Roger Gaspard, SC.
