Five men, jointly charged with possession of a firearm and ammunition, have appeared before a Siparia magistrate to answer to the charges.
Kurtlee Dhanaram, 27, of Boyack Terrace, Santa Flora; Stephan Jackson, 23, of Welcome Peters Street, Siparia; Brent Williams, 24, of Quarry Village, Siparia; along with Matthew Forbes, 26, and Jonathan George, 22, both of Ramlal Street, Penal, were charged after being arrested by officers of the Penal Criminal Investigations Department who were on mobile patrol in the Penal district on Thursday.
The Police Service said while driving along Penal Rock Road around 11.25 am, PC Amit Kunjal and other officers stopped and searched a grey Toyota Fielder with five male occupants.
The search resulted in the officers discovering a shotgun and one round of 12 gauge ammunition.
The men were taken to the Penal Police Station and charged by PC Kunjal in connection with the find.
