Does anybody know about the Dark Green coolant that Kia uses from the factory? Is this Ethlyene gylcol(usual green) coolant? Popped open a Radiator cap to take a look at the condition of the coolant and was amazed by what I found.

I know the cheaper bright coolants turn dark or dull green when they start to get old. I never heard of the coolant coming with that dark green colour.

True, thats how I know it too but apparently its something based off Mazda FL22 if not the same thing. I think that is also dark green.

Too many manufacturers are using various colours and making their proprietary blends of coolant. Whatever happened to the old green ethylene glycol?

lol i buy the really concentrated one from unipet and mix with water lol simple solution hahahahahaha

I used the redline water wetter and mix it with water for my bike and use the concentrated subaru coolant with prestone anti-freeze (recommended by 555) for my car. Not the cheapest but they seem to be working good so far. Then again, I tend not to skimp on preventative maintenance cuz I don't like paying for expensive repairs.

Yea Mad Racer its confusing when everybody using a different colour. Toyota uses Pink nowadays, Kia gone with a dark green and some of the stickers does confuse people till they actually read the manual.

I have used this Prestone Coolant. Dark green. Seems to be good. Definitely working good thus far in a B14. Using a pink one (Zerex) in a Lancer.

I recently help my friend put that Prestone in his car too. It works pretty good but I have better belief in the Zerex still.

Well to be honest, the B14 had overheated last week. Radiator had Zerex in it. Upon inspection by a so called mechanic who stopped to assist when I pulled aside to see what was causing the temperature to raise, he said whatever coolant I was using is too acidic and is made for engine made from more metal as in higher end cars, and not more aluminum as with the GA15 engine in the B14. He came to that statement after seeing a whitish substance on the top tank of the radiator and the neck of the radiator top hose where it goes into the engine block. I don't know how true this is. I will have to do some research. This is how I ended up putting Prestone in the B14.

Oh you were using the Asian formula? I use Asian formula and its never gotten white on me but that's some good insight if its true.

Also I want to doubt him a bit. The pink Asian formula is very similar to Toyota Super Long Life which is actually POAT based and is one of the few only replacements I know off for Toyotas using it.

Brotherhood by chance the white stuff could have been oil in the cooling system?

Really not sure na bro. Don't know or think it was oil mixing with the coolant. It was the Zerex Asian Formula in the Black bottle.

hmmm from my understanding its a good coolant for aluminum internals, I use it too and never seen the white stuff anywhere.

Well I not taking his word for it eh. To my understanding it is a very good coolant to use. The white stuff could have been dried coolant due a leak in the system prior it overheating on given day. I would have been none the wiser as a couple days had passed without me checking fluid levels etc.
