A 55-year-old Barataria man has been charged with possession of a firearm, ammunition and marijuana.
A statement from the Police Service said Bertrand Rawle Wilson, a contractor, of Sparrow Avenue, was arrested by officers of the Inter-Agency Task Force, Strike Team during an a raid conducted in the Barataria district.
The release said during the exercise, officers executed a search warrant at Wilson’s home and allegedly discovered a black Citadel pistol, three rounds of .45 calibre ammunition and 13 grammes of marijuana.
Wilson was charged by PC Darwin Boodoo, The exercise was supervised by acting Superintendent Nazir Mohammed and acting ASP Brandon John, both of IATF Strike Team.
Pistol, ammo seized after man held
Swift work by officers of the Pinto Police Post has resulted in an Arima man being arrested and a firearm and a quantity of ammunition seized in the Pinto district.
Officers were on mobile patrol along the Maturita Main Road, Pinto, around 9.15 pm on Sunday during which they observed a man walking along the roadway. Upon seeing the officers, the man ran away.
Officers pursued the suspect, who then entered a private residence on Hoyte Avenue, Pinto, by jumping over a concrete wall.
The officers requested assistance by contacting the Northern Division Operations Centre, who dispatched officers of the Arima Criminal Investigations Department and the Northern Division Rapid Response Unit.
The police searched of the premises and found the suspect hiding in the yard of the private residence.
As officers were attempting to arrest him a struggle ensued. The 27-year-old man, of Bypass Road, Maturita, was held .
The search resulted in a Beretta pistol, outfitted with an extended magazine, containing 25 rounds of 9 mm ammunition, being found in his possession. He was taken to the Pinto Police Post where he was being questioned up to late yesterday.
