A fourth man, a security guard, has been charged with the murder of police constable Richard Babwah.

He has been identified as Akinola “Shorty” Davis, 27, of Production Drive, Sea Lots.

He was also charged with robbery with aggravation, robbery with violence, possession of a firearm and possession of ammunition.

Davis now joins the three other accused—Keane Osei “Clarkie” Simmons, 32; Shurland “Psycho” Jones, 32 and Shawn “Scottie” Scott, 31—all of Maloney Gardens, D’Abadie.

The trio appeared before Magistrate Debby Ann Bassaw in the Arima First Magistrate’s Court on December 20 2017.

Babwah, 40, who was attached to the Homicide Bureau of Investigations (HBI) Region 2, was at a Chinese restaurant in Arouca on December 11 when three men entered; one armed with a gun, and announced a robbery.

The officer drew his service pistol and attempted to foil the robbery, but was killed on the scene.

One of the suspects was shot and wounded during the incident as well.

Davis was arrested by officers of the Organised Crime and Intelligence Unit at about 6.30 am last Friday at his workplace.

Investigations were supervised by Insp Shaun Craig, of HBI Region 2, who also laid the charges against Davis.
