There were several shooting incidents reported in the west, north and central within the last 24 hours — four of which lead to fatalities.

On Thursday at about noon, a man identified as Patrick John, 27, was seated in his hammock at his Upper Seventh Avenue, Malick home, when he was approached by a gunman who shot him in the head. John was taken to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital (PoSGH) where he later died.

The second incident occurred in Cunupia at about 7 pm on Thursday, when psychiatrist Dr Peter Pedro was found dead at his home. He was found shot in the head and a gun and spent shell was found next to the body. Pedro worked at the St Ann’s Mental Hospital.

Yesterday, at about 1.30 am, Melanie Jones, 29, was shot dead outside her Petit Valley home. She was shot once to the head. Her murder, police said, was linked to a property dispute.

In an unrelated incident at about 11 am yesterday, an unidentified man was killed during a shootout with police officers from the North Eastern Division Task Force (NEDTF).

According to a police report, NEDTF officers were on patrol in Malick when they were allegedly fired upon by a group of men who were said to be liming in the hills. The officers returned fire, hitting one from the group. The others escaped.

The wounded man, who was only identified as ‘’Indian’’, was taken to the PoSGH where he succumbed to his injuries.

Police are also seeking help in identifying a man who was shot during an argument in Freeport around 9.30 pm on Thursday. He was taken to the Couva District Hospital where he was treated and said to be in a stable condition.

Also, in a separate incident that night, in Carenage at about 11 pm a man was standing along the pavement at Seaview Hill, Carenage, when he was approached by two men. An argument began among the three during which the man was shot in the left thigh. The gunmen ran away.
