Two men were murdered and three injured in a drive-by shooting in Petit Valley yesterday evening.

According to reports, around 4.10 pm a group of men were playing cards under a shed in an area off Morne Coco Road, known as Coco-Jah, when a vehicle stopped alongside them.

The vehicle’s occupants lowered their windows and began shooting at the group of men, who attempted to scamper away to safety. The driver of the vehicle then sped off.

The five victims were taken to the St James Medical Complex, where two died while receiving treatment. The others were stabilised and transferred to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital, where were warded in a stable condition last night.

The dead men were identified as Allan “Spanish” Lopez and Jordon Gibbs.

Police have classified their murders as gang related, as both men were said to be affiliated to a gang operating in the community. No suspects were arrested up to late yesterday.

Their murders raised the murder toll for the year to 179.

In another incident, police were up to late last night at Mamoral No. 2 where a man was murdered during a domestic dispute.

The dead man was identified as Deron Gaitan, the son of a retired prison officer.

Up to press time details remained sketchy, but police said the incident occurred at about 5.30 pm.

Investigations are continuing.
