Four months after his father suffered a fatal heart attack, a 24-year-old man was found dead near his Woodland home yesterday with chop wounds to his head.
Relatives of Lutchman “Japs” Ramcharan, an electrician/labourer, were clueless as to why someone would want to kill him.
His body was found under a shed not far from the early childhood and primary schools along the La Fortune Road.
At his Jacksingh Trace home where he lived with his relatives, his mother Doolarie, 54, could not cope with the pain of losing the youngest of her three children.
Doolarie screamed out several times and also fainted.
“My brother did not deserve this,” said his sister, Rupa.
She recalled last seeing Ramcharan around 5.30 pm on Saturday. He was speaking to their mother. Rupa said she did not know where he went. “Sometimes he take he lil drink but he would come home. He don’t tell nobody nothing. We never know him to have any problems with anybody,” said Rupa.
She said around 2.30 am a neighbour called out her mother. When Rupa came out of the house, the neighbour told her that something happened to Ramcharan.
She called her uncle and they left in his car. “I flash the light (torchlight) and I see him in a pool of blood.
“He was lying on his side. I touch him on the side of this waist but I got no response,” she said.
His phone and wallet were missing. However, he was wearing his gold ring and earring and police found $30 and a lighter on him.
Since the passing of her father Ramcharan Sadhu, she said Ramcharan has been offering water every month as part of the Hindu tradition.
She said her other brother will now have to continue the ritual until her father’s one- year death anniversary.
